CLIA Member Cruise Lines Implement New Muster Drill Policy

Effective immediately, the CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) member cruise lines – which includes all the mainstream cruise lines – will implement a new muster drill policy. The new policy exceeds legal requirements and it being adopted voluntarily as a best practice.
A mandatory muster for embarking passengers will now occur prior to departure from port. For guests who arrive after the muster has been completed, the policy requires that they be “promptly provided with individual or group safety briefings that meet the requirements for musters applicable under SOLAS”. Although the policy is effective immediately, it is likely to require a period of time for the logistics and procedures to be implemented on all ships of the member cruise lines.
